Located at the corner of Jl. Pluit Raya and Jl. Jembatan Tiga amidst a wide array of amenities such as offices and an F&B units, Emporium Pluit is a 6-storey retail mall that seeks to conclude the development of the area as a regional hub.
In response to the interminable traffic from two major roads, the concept is to attract crowd by contouring the shape of the building form. A generous curvilinear facade extended across the corner with a drum-like feature, clad in tinted blue glass, embedded in the middle of the continuous facade. Designed to be seen as ‘floating’ above the ground level, the drum dictates the entrance to the mall beneath it, and transformed the static form of the mall to more dynamism in the facade.
The design was developed after thoughtful considerations were made to reduce the massing of the retail podium in relation to the pedestrians. The solution was to provide for some vertical and horizontal treatment in the form of sized-up mullions on the otherwise massive facade. On the other side of the building facade, the stroke of vertical fins marking the entire elevation relates the curvilinear mall to its adjacent neighbouring buildings which are identically composed of the vertical. The interior of the mall consists of one main atrium complimented by another three secondary ones. These atriums not only generate a spacious quality to the interior, but also serve as event spaces. A red ribbon-like feature, functioning as the mall concierge, was extended from the double-volume ceiling; intentionally created to become a focal point at the foyer area.
